Sunday 3/18/12, Free Concert at SMS

posted Mar 17, 2012, 5:23 PM by Matthew Briere

Hey SHS Orchestra students and families, this Sunday (3/18/12) there will be a free concert at Saline Middle School.  Due to the tornado on Thursday, the Dexter Community Orchestra will be performing at SMS at 4pm.  The concert is free but half of all the donations received will be donated to the Dexter tornado relief effort.  This is a great opportunity to see an orchestra made up of adults who come together out of their shared love of music-making in a large orchestral setting.  More importantly, we will be joined by two fabulous soloists, Paul and Linda Rosenthal.  The Rosenthals have traveled all the way from Alaska to perform in the Ann Arbor area this week, including a small performance in second hour last week.  Lastly, this is a free concert that will be perfect for getting that pesky concert requirement done before the trimester even starts.  I hope some of you can make it, you might even notice a familiar face in the second violin section (wink).

Musically Yours,
Mr. Briere

Program Info
Ravel: Mother Goose Suite
Spohr: Concertante in B minor for Two Violins and Orchestra, Op. 88
Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade

Paul and Linda Rosenthal, violins
Anthony Elliott, conductor

Free admission, donations accepted, 50% will be contributed to tornado relief.

Concert Report Assignment (due by the end of each trimester)

posted Sep 14, 2010, 8:08 AM by Ben Culver

Saline High School Orchestra students are required to attend at least one concert outside of the Saline Orchestra Program per trimester.  There are many tremendous music ensembles, artists, and opportunities in Southeast Michigan.  A calendar highlighting many of these opportunities is available on the Saline Orchestra Department website.  The goal of this assignment is to experience at least one of these opportunities, reflect on the experience through writing, and bring back a new perspective on music making to enrich the Saline Orchestra Program.

Please return your printed concert report to your director by the end of the trimester.  Failure to complete this assignment will result in a lowering of the Assignments/Playing Tests/Projects grade as outlined in the Orchestra Handbook.  Plan ahead and go hear some great music!
