Frank Turk, who was instrumental in the formation of the school division in 1983, was honored for his nearly 30 years of distinguished service to Salem school children.  Turk is retiring from the city and school division this month after 45 years.


The Salem High School golf team was recognized for winning the State Group AA golf championship this year.  The team beat Spotswood by 25 strokes for the title.  It’s Salem’s first state golf title in 31 years.


Four teachers were honored by the board for earning the prestigious National Board Certification. This achievement means an educator has met the highest standards for his or her profession.  Meghan All – an 8th grad English teacher at Andrew Lewis Middle, Valerie Close – a 3rd grade teacher at South Salem Elementary, Megan Nester – a 6th grade language arts teacher at Andrew Lewis Middle and Erin Stenger – a mathematics teacher at Salem High School were honored by the board.
