Español 1

Course Description:

In this course, students will learn the basics of the Spanish language in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will use the language to make connections with other disciplines, make linguistic cultural comparisons, and identify cultural perspectives and practices. Students will demonstrate proficiency through interpersonal, interpretive and presentational communication.

Course Completion:

Students must successfully complete all lessons through Education by the end of the 2014-2015 school year in order to be in Spanish II the following year. However, each student will progress at their own pace throughout the year. The teacher and student will track their successful completion of each lesson. Parents can monitor progress through Parent Portal or by checking the progress sheet in the student’s folder. Successful completion of a lesson is an 85% or better.

Homework:

Homework is assigned so that students have the opportunity for extra practice and preparation when needed. The student is expected to complete the work assigned before coming to class. Come to class prepared! The key to having a successful and enjoyable year is to review the classwork on a daily basis. Spanish like Math is a building process. Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday night … rarely on the week-end. Please click below under the homework link to confirm or verify homework assignments.

Make-up work:

Students are expected to see me for make-up work. All make-up is due within one week of returning after the initial absence. Tests, quizzes, or listening comprehensions will need to be made up with me before or after school. Students are responsible for finding out the work that was missed during their absence. Extended illness or family emergency will be handled on an individual basis.
