St. Mary’s High School Alumni Office


Rose Simonelli Leonardini graduated from St. Mary’s in 1948.  Upon receiving a General Secondary Credential in Spanish and Social Studies from College of the Pacific, she began her first year of teaching in Courtland Union High School in Courtland, CA.  There she taught junior English, senior English, Spanish I (two classes), Spanish 2, Spanish 3 and was Yearbook advisor during her prep period.  What a challenging schedule for a beginning teacher: 7 classes a day with 6 preparations.  Then 7 years were spent teaching Spanish, U.S. History and Latin at Lodi Union High School.  In 1968, Rose began her career at St. Mary’s.   She taught three Spanish classes, one Latin class and was sophomore counselor.   After 50 years of teaching, she retired at the end of the school year 2010 and now works in the Alumni Office.

   Rose has been married to Don for 63 years and has one daughter, Cathy McCurdy, a son Jim ’77, and two granddaughters, Meredith McCurdy ’01 and Ashley Ezell.   As of 2017, Rose & her husband have five great -granddaughters & one great-grandson.
