Kindergarten…Week of February 11, 2019

This Thursday, February 14 is Valentine’s Day. We will be having a class party with some treats and a craft. The children may also exchange Valentine Day cards with their friends. Your child can write his/her name on the card, but please do not address the card to a specific child. This makes for easier distribution. It is okay if the cards have candy or other treats attached.

If we do not have any snow days this week, Wednesday, February 20 will be our 100th day of school. This is the day we come back after our long weekend.) This is always a fun day to celebrate! I am asking that the children come to school that day dressed as if they were 100 years old. Be creative and have fun!

This week I will be sending home the sight words the children have been working on since the first quarter. They will be printed on bright colored cardstock paper and it will be found in your child’s folder.

Below is our schedule for the week:

Math- The children will be taught how to count and write the numbers 13-20. They will be shown how to count forward from any number up to 20.

Reading- Our book this week is The Lion and the Mouse. The genre is a classic fable. The text-based comprehension is main idea. The vocabulary words are jungle, nibbling, trembling, beast, snarled and entangled. Our sight words are had, will, him and big.

Religion- Our religion lessons this week will focus on how God chose Mary to be the mother of Jesus. We will also discuss St. Valentine.

Handwriting- We are going to focus on leaving a finger space between words and having the letters close without touching within a word.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Mary Woods
