Volunteering for PTO

The St. Bridget PTO runs a wide variety of family, kid and parent-oriented events and activities throughout the year. These many activities often require a host of people to be successful and therefore is a great opportunity to volunteer at Saint Bridget School. Please read over the descriptions and see what the PTO has planned. If there is a need for volunteers, it is included with the description. Please contact either the Chairperson, or a PTO Board Member. The time you spend volunteering at SBS is priceless and appreciated more than you will ever know!

Welcome Back Picnic - Sunday, September 24th. from 1-3p.m.

ABOUT:  Volunteers are needed to help plan, and on the day of event to help with setup and takedown, supervise games, crafts and serve food.

Amazing Grace Race - Sat, September 30th.

ABOUT:  Leave the kids with a sitter and enjoy this fun scavenger hunt all around Framingham. Contact the chairs if you would like to help organize this super fun event!

Online Safety Program - Thursday, October 19th.

ABOUT:  The Dept. of Justice and Mass State Police will present Internet Safety to 5t h -8t h Graders during the school day, and then a parents-only presentation during the evening. Help is needed to spread the word, brainstorm additional cyber safety ideas, and to help with purchase of refreshments and set-up/ take down for the evening presentation.

Halloween Party - Saturday, October 28th.

ABOUT:  The Halloween party is THE social event of the year for grades K1-5! Costumes, games, a haunted house, and cake walk make for an evening of fun for our children. Volunteers are needed to plan the evening, set-up and clean up after the event, and assist with the fun and games and food the night of the party. This is also a great opportunity for older students to fulfill community service hours. Average time commitment: 1-2 hours.

Santa’s Secret Shop - week of December 4th.

ABOUT:  It’s the most wonderful time of the year! This fun event helps the students learn the meaning of giving instead of receiving. Volunteers are needed to set up the shop at School, help the children purchase modest gifts for their family based on their budget, and assist in checkout and breakdown at the end of the event. Set-up and Take-down can be after school. Helping during the event is during the school day.

Scholastic Book Fair - week of November 13th.

Chair: Katie Amighi and Jennifer DeManche-Yohn

ABOUT:  This is held once per year. Volunteers are needed to distribute flyers, set-up, take-down and staff the Fair, and usually help younger students purchase books and stay within budget. Set-up and take down occur after school. Staffing the Book Fair is done during the day.

Hospitality - ongoing

Chair: Kim DeMeo - looking to build a committee

ABOUT:  Volunteers help to purchase refreshments, set up, serve and clean-up at important events like Grandparent’s or Special Person’s Day, Back to School Night, and Open Houses. Help is needed either day or evening.

5K Fun Run and Food Truck Festival - Sat. June 2nd.

ABOUT:  Secures permits, prizes and sponsors. Involves organizing registrations, T-Shirts and helping with set-up and take-down. Planning is done evenings/electronically and help is needed the day of the event.

Variety Show (Grades 4-8) - Friday, May 18th.

ABOUT:  Help spread the word and organize the first ever SBS Variety Show in May, 2018. All ideas welcome.

Lunch Volunteer Coordinator - ongoing

Chair: Open

ABOUT:  Volunteers needed for daily lunch help. Commit to helping one day per week, or every other week from 11:00a-12:30p, or whatever your lunch break allows. Great way to observe the kids in action.

Comedy Night - Sat. January 20th.

Chair: Cat Rorick

ABOUT:  Join us for one of the funniest evenings you’ll ever have! The Committee will assist the Chairperson with the printing and distribution of tickets and flyers, set-up and breakdown the night of the event, shopping for paper goods and appetizers, and decorating the School hall. Average time commitment: 2-3 hours.

Field Day BBQ - Date TBD by School, usually early June

Chair: Cat Rorick and Elizabeth Kumpavong

ABOUT:  Every June the PTO sponsors a school-wide BBQ Lunch for Field Day. Volunteers are needed to purchase food, cook burgers/dogs, serve the food and clean up. Volunteers will also be needed to help run games. This is done during the school day. Little ones are welcome.

Giving Tree - ongoing

ABOUT:  The Giving Tree is a wonderful tradition started by a former parent. The Tree holds ‘wishes’ from teachers and staff for materials they would like in their classrooms—added items to make learning more engaging. You pick an Apple, bring it with payment to the front desk staff, and Giving Tree volunteers purchase and forward the desired item - with recognition for your generosity! A great way to supplement a teacher’s environment! Most work can be done in the evenings, weekends, or electronically.

Kids’ Pajama Bingo Night - Thursday, March 8th.

ABOUT:  The children will enjoy an evening of playing this fun game and the thrill of shouting BINGO—all while in their favorite pj’s! Volunteers needed to help shop for treats, set-up, assist in the game, and clean up.

Grocery Store Gift Card Program

ABOUT:  Do you shop at Stop & Shop or Whole Foods? Consider purchasing store gift cards for your weekly shopping trips and the school will receive 5% for each gift card purchased. It’s as easy as that! There is no cost to you, it streamlines the shopping experience (no credit or debit receipts to sign) and the school consistently nets a profit. School Supplies

ABOUT:  Orders are taken in the spring for the following year’s school supplies. The Committee will help the Chairperson place orders, and upon arrival of supplies in the summer, sort supplies at the school for the students to pick up on Visiting Day. Average time commitment: 1-2 hours.

Room Parents

ABOUT:  Room parents are vital in assisting teachers with special events in the classroom. This is a great position for working and stay-at-home parents alike. Each classroom requires 2 parents.

Sweetheart Dance - Sat, February 10th.

Chair: Paula Barbosa and Lara Cote

ABOUT:  Mother/ son/ father/ daughter/ special someone - join us for a dance in the school hall. PTO will have a DJ, some snacks and make sure you stop by to pose for a special picture.

Square One Art

Chair: Maddie Williams

ABOUT:  One of St. Bridget’s most popular fundraisers. Students design their own artwork to be featured on quality products for purchase. Just in time for the holidays, these items make great Christmas gifts. The Coordinator will need assistance distributing orders upon arrival from the company. Average time commitment: 30 minutes.

Teacher Appreciation Lunches

Chair: Kim Demeo

ABOUT:  Twice a year, the parents host a Teacher Appreciation Lunch, to express our gratitude to our wonderful staff for all they do. Help bake, shop or set up a beautiful luncheon for our great teachers and staff. The two teacher luncheons are held on Early Release Days. Average time commitment: 1-2 hours.

Used Uniform Closet and Sale

Chair: Suzanne Richardson, crannymore@verizon.net .

ABOUT:  Volunteers help keep the Used Uniform Closet neat and organized. They also assist the Coordinator in bi-annual sales events to clear the closet of inventory. Proceeds from the sale of uniform pieces are donated to the HAS (Help A Student) Fund.

Welcoming Committee

ABOUT:  This Committee helps to welcome new families and make them feel comfortable with the School, its policies and procedures. Some events and responsibilities include a playdate in the park for new students and their parents, and a willingness to be a ‘buddy’ family available to new families and their many questions. Average time commitment: 30-60 minutes.

ABOUT:  Help spread the word about this fun, school-wide event in which St. Bridget rents the facility in Hudson, MA as a special celebration of Catholic Schools Week.
