Seventh Grade- Mondays through Thursdays 8:20-9:10

Seventh Grade American History

Students will learn about people, issues, and events of significance from the birth of our nation to the current era of globalization. They will examine the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and Supreme Court decisions for their lasting impacts on the American people, economy, and governing structure. Students will also study civics and economic principles, drawing connections between these disciplines and history to explain the impact of various policies on how people lived, worked, and functioned in society. Students will also used detailed maps of places in the United States through it's history.

Eighth Grade Geography and World Cultures

Students will explore the regions of the world using geographic information from print and electronic sources. They analyze important trends in the modern worlds such as demographic change, shifting trade patterns, and intensified cultural interactions due to globalization. We will learn the geography benchmarks of the eleven regions in the world, and the five themes of geography and world cultures. By learning about the different geographical locations, plus trade and the factors that affect economic growth, students will understand why there are different standards of living in countries around the world.

We did it! The Seventh Grade performed their Christmas play, "Christmas in the Land of Oz!" Masks and a pandemic did not stop this class from doing a wonderful job bringing us a sequel to an all-time classic. Great job, seventh graders-take a bow!! Enjoy!

At long last, here is the virtual production of "Peter Pan" that last year's eighth graders(and additional sixth and seventh helpers) performed. I was so impressed with their dedication and loyalty in order to pull this off. Hope you enjoy!!

Middle School Music Curriculum

Grading

Middle School receives a letter grade in Music, based on behavior, class participation, projects, tests, and quizzes. All assignments are done in class, with the exception of the seventh grade charting project and line memorization for the musicals. If a student is absent, they are responsible to gather any assignments by their next music class.

Middle School Major Units

All Middle School grades watch, critique, and are tested on a musical. Past musicals include: The Wiz, Phantom of the Opera, Oliver, and Holiday Inn. Eighth grade is required to watch West Side Story.

Sixth Grade learns about all of the eras of music from 1900 to the present, including jazz, blues, rock, country, etc. etc. This is about a four month unit! in the winter, we will be working on units on freedom and the make-up of individual voices. They are involved with the Spring Concert as well.

Seventh Grade will be charting a song of their choice for seven weeks on a Top 10 or Top 40 chart. The students will start this in September and it will be due by Thanksgiving. This way, if they miss a few weeks, they can still get seven weeks worth of information. The early part of the year is devoted to recapping all of the basic music terms and notation learned through the years, and applying math and logic to music! By October, they will start working on the Christmas musical, of which the seventh graders are in charge. Seventh grade will have music twice a week in the first two quarters.

Eighth Grade will begin Music class this January. Two major units in eighth grade are: learning about the steps of making a recording and the technological evolution of the recording process; and tying everything learned over the years into one cohesive music theory unit. Eighth grade will have music twice a week in the second two quarters. Their grand finale will, of course, be performing in the Spring musical!
