Peoples postcode lottery

We have recently been funded £15,000 in order to carry out our employability courses. These courses include CCTV installation, PAT testing, Food Hygiene, Introduction to small business and learning to write Mobile phone apps.

These modern skills enable people the opportunity to gain employment or start their own business.

So far we have provided training for over 35 people, several of which have gone on to use these new skills to either start a business or gain employment. A few examples are shown below.

During our first PAT course we met Nathen who was 17 years old. Nathan was ineligible for any of our European funded courses because of his age but thanks to the funding we have received we could offer the full range of courses to Nathan.

Nathan passed his course and has now secured employment.

Five Polish ladies approached the charity with a desire to start a Polish restaurant. We provided help with providing training in food hygiene. We also linked with another organisation, taste for life, who have provided the ladies with a restaurant to experience running a business before they take the plunge into getting their own premises. The outcome is that now, the ladies are successfully operating a pop-up Polish restaurant every thursday. This has been a huge success with the local community and provided the ladies with much needed experience as well as building confidence. We continue to mentor the ladies in business matters to help them succeed in their venture.

Several unemployed people have approached us to help enhance their skills in order to move them closer to the jobs market. We recently provided PAT training to 9 learners.

As a result, the learners have now sought to add additional skills as a group and we helped facilitate this by sign-posting additional training via other organisations.

Many of the group are now confident in brickwork, carpentry as well as PAT testing.

Mark is unemployed. He approached us with the desire to learn new skills. We are now working with Mark to develop skills in PAT and CCTV in order for him to start his own company. We will also mentor mark as he begins his company.

These are just a few of the many people that have been assisted by the generosity of players of the people's postcode lottery. We are all thankful and continue to help new learners all of the time.
