Byod- My opinion?

Personally, I don't like BYOD. It may help some students with their research and such but, I don't like Byod for certain reasons. For one, many students can't afford to buy the technology and when they can afford it, it is always going to be a competition. I say competition as everyone is trying to out do the other. Let's say I have an Ipod nano which my parents bought me the other day so that I can participate in BYOD as well and not feel left out. I feel good at the fact that I have technology which I can bring to school and all. One person is bound to say, "You have a nano? I have an Ipod touch and the latest version too." I'm going to feel embarrassed and sad and I'm definitely going to be thinking about why I can't have one as well. I go home and I complain to my parents who feel really upset that I don't appreciate the gift that they got me. Basically, in the end everyone is going to be upset. I'm going to the very extreme here but, there is no denying the fact that it can actually happen.

That is one reason I don't like BYOD. Another reason to express my opinion is the question of why we need it. We don't need to bring our devices to school. It can help but, you can't really expect the students to only use their device to help them learn. There will be more texting in class. This means that bringing the devices to school will have the different effect on the students than you planned. The students won't be paying attention in class, due to the devices. This will lead the students to miss important details. These important details might come up on a test and the student won't know the answer to it because they weren't paying attention. I do like BYOD in some cases but, for the most part I don't like it. Therefore, I think BYOD will be a distraction and really unnecessary.
