15 Maya - Hook Your Way In @(^ . ^)@

Hi everyone! My name is Maya. And I'm a competitive figure skater, representing SMFSC. I love to read, write, draw, crochet, help others, skate, READ (again!) and just... Chill, hang out, you know? Like almost any other pre-teen kid! I like plants, bubbles, AMIGURUMI (crochet stuffed toys) polka-dots, stars... Colourful stuff... And pretty much everything else... Feel free to comment on my blog, and please come back every week to see what I've got that's new! I hope to hear from you and see your comments!

My blog title, "Hood Your Way In @(^ . ^)@" is meant to leave a little suspense.  I gave it that so I could reel you in!  OK no my blog isn't about fishing...  It's actually about crocheting!  I adore crochet because it enables you to let your imagination fly, you can exercise your hands, and just have fun with it!  The little amigurumi stitch you see above is only a little taste of what lies wake in the crochet world!  You can create anything from a set of socks for your baby cousin, to a kindle cover!  Here I will post some ideas I plan to bring to life, past projects, patterns and tips, as well as links to help anyone else who might feel like learning!  It looks difficult, but with yarn and hook in hand as well as confidence, you can do it just like anything else!  I hope you all enjoy and I look forward to your comments!

June 15th

posted May 30, 2014, 12:58 PM by Unknown user   [ updated May 30, 2014, 12:58 PM by Unknown user ]

Hi everybody and welcome back to my blog about crocheting!  This post is about June 15th.  In my previous post, I mentioned that June 15th is Fathers day.  However, June 15th is also my Moms birthday (yay!).  So I also plan to make something for her special day (man I'm really piling up on the projects huh?).  To go along with and to match my Dads Bat bunny* that can be found in the previous post, I've decided to make my mom a Robin Bunny!  He'll be made using the same pattern, but instead he'll be made with different colours to make him look like the super hero Robin!  In the comics, Robin was Batman's apprentice, and they worked together as a team.  My Mom and Dad work together all the time.  At work, at home, everywhere!  They make the perfect duo, which is why  I decided to make my Mom Robin Bunny to go along with the Bat Bunny!  I think that they'll look great together!  Happy early Fathers Day everyone! Have an awesome weekend, and I'll see everyone going on the trip bright and early Monday morning!

Surprise! Fathers Day Project Sneak Peek!

Hey everyone! This blog post shows a sneak peek on another upcoming project (similar to last weeks).  The preview features...  My fathers day project!  Fathers day is on June 15th, and it's a day when everyone celebrates their dads!  Usually I buy my dad a mug or something, but this year, I'm making him a very special ami!  Because my dad really likes batman, I decided to make something bat themed...  I ended up being unable to decide between either a regular batman doll, or a bat bunny.  But alas!  The winner is...!  BAT BUNNY!  On the bottom left is a picture of the regular batman doll, and on the bottom right is a picture of the bat bunny!  I sincerely hope it goes well, and I will keep you all updated as it goes on.  See you next time!

Sneak Peek! Upcoming Project!

Welcome back everyone!  This blog post holds a special sneak peak to another blog that will be coming up in the near future!  In case anyone was wondering, I've put the Jasmine doll on hold for a while (makes me very sad) but I will get back to it!  This upcoming project is for someone special who will be soon leaving, and this is a goodbye gift.  I think that the product represents this person in many ways, but those will be listed later when it is completed!  The project is...  A butterfly!  If you'd like to guess who this is for, please feel free to email me!  The first person to get it right will get a prize (No it isn't something stupid or cheesy like the honor of winning or a sheet of paper or anything... :P). I look forward to your emails*! See you again next week!

Hello everyone!  Welcome back and welcome to any newcomers!  Today's post goes out to all the video gamers out there!  Anyone have a PS3?  If so have you played LittleBigPlanet?  LittleBigPlanet is about this little thing called a Sackboy who runs around throughout the world building stuff, and discovering new things!  You play as him and go around the world helping everyone in the game! You may also customize your Sackboy by giving him different accessories, hair, clothes and you can even make him from different
fabrics!  In LittleBigPlanet, it's all up to you and you can make him however you want!  It's a lot of fun and now, this post features the very same Sackboy from the game!  The pattern here is also created by Nerdigurumi and is shown to the right!  The finished project is approx the size of a PS3 controller so that way like in the game, you can make him his own pod*!  This pattern can be found by following the link at the bottom of the page! Thanks for reading and hope you come back again soon!

*Pod: The little room/base where Sackboy stays when not exploring. More or less like a cute cardboard box...

Mothers Day Project....!

posted May 18, 2014, 4:34 PM by Unknown user   [ updated May 18, 2014, 4:34 PM by Unknown user ]

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog for crochet!  In this post I will tell about my wonderful project I did.  For mothers day, I wanted to make something small
that she would like so she can carry it around with her.  I know that my mothers LOVES cupcakes more than any other dessert, so I decided to make her just
that!  An amigurumi cupcake!  The pattern was supplied by Emjay Bailey from Nerdigurumi and was the same pattern I used for Ms. Davey's cupcake at the beginning of the year!  The little guy gave me a bit of a hard time, but It worked, and I was able to finish for my Mom! Happy Mothers Day to everyone!  See you next time!

Amigurumi Princess Jasmine Update

posted May 14, 2014, 5:29 AM by Unknown user   [ updated May 14, 2014, 5:29 AM by Unknown user ]

Hey everyone!  Welcome back to my crochet blog!  This blog post is to tell the world about how my Princess Jasmine doll is doing!  So far I have finished the head and have included the eyes and have begun the top!  The doll is doing VERY well and will likely be a little bit bigger due to bulkier yarn.  In case this confuses you, here is an explanation: When you're making something, it can be amigurumi or just regular crochet (knitting works too)... depending on the size of yarn, your stitches will be bigger or smaller.  It's like when you use different fonts.  Some fonts are bigger/smaller than others and because of this, your words might be bigger or smaller.  Similarly if you have a bulkier yarn your end project will be bigger than one with finer yarn.  In any event, I predict that the Jasmine doll will be bigger than her other crocheted friend Snow White due to the bulkier yarn.  Thanks for reading again everyone!  Hope to see you soon!

Baby Crab Is Complete! Almost...

posted Apr 28, 2014, 3:24 PM by Unknown user   [ updated Apr 28, 2014, 3:24 PM by Unknown user ]

Hey everyone! Welcome back, welcome back! This weeks post features the baby crab once again!  Just recently the little guy was completed (with the exception of the embroidered mouth and the egg) and leaves me with a short opening for the Princess Jasmine Doll!  With the crab, I have yet to create the egg, but that will be crocheted at a later date and will be given to my super-duper awesome friend Sarah at a later date.  I'm hoping to get the crab itself to it's friendly owner by Wednesday at the latest...  But if I am to see her sooner I would be super happy!  As per usual, if anyone would like to see finished images of the crab, they will be provided.  Please do not hesitate to email me!  I'll be looking forward to your emails, and hoping to hear from you all!

Baby Crab Progress Update :)

Hello Everyone and welcome back to my crochet blog of wonders (Sorry that was an Aladdin joke...).  Today I give you a simple update on my progress!  My little crab is doing well, not yet in one piece, but because of my schedule going slowly, I may have to put this one down for a little and get started on Princess Jasmine if I want her finished before the show...  In any event, if you'd like to see pictures of my progress, feel free to email me whenever you feel motivated enough to do so! Thanks again for reading, and if you have any questions, requests or anything else, again feel free to email me! Hope to hear from you all again!

An "In-Between" Project

posted Apr 13, 2014, 1:13 PM by Unknown user   [ updated Apr 13, 2014, 1:13 PM by Unknown user ]

Hey everyone, and welcome back to my blog about crochet!  Today I will introduce to you the concept of an in-between project (yes I developed this concept myself) and what my newest one is!  So basically, when you start or before you start a big project, sometimes you want to take a break and just do something else.  In a nutshell, it's basically you're a little bored of doing the same thing for a while and you just want to change things up a little.  So!  With that I will explain to you
what my newest project is...
I have friend who has requested that I make her a baby crab from my "Crochet Critters and Bugs" book shown to the left.  The finished project is shown below and comes with an egg for the baby crab!  The little cutie should be done quick, and when it is finished I will get cracking on my little Jasmine Doll! Thanks again for reading and hope you enjoyed!

Same Love

posted Mar 30, 2014, 6:41 PM by Unknown user   [ updated Mar 30, 2014, 6:41 PM by Unknown user ]

Welcome back!  This weeks post is about a song called Same Love, which describes what happens to people who have different preferences in love.  We as human being all start the same. As we develop, we grow different tastes based on living environments, people we hang out with, and how we are treated, and these things contribute to how we act as well.  Things like gender, skin-tone, size and sexual preferences shouldn't matter to us, because we're all the same.  The song makes a person understand what happens to these people, and makes one feel disappointed in that we can't be bothered to care about anyone but ourselves.  If people could work together as a whole, we could help those who
don't feel they fit in, fit in.  Humans can accomplish more together, and although we have our differences, we have similarities that keep us together. Thanks again for reading!
