Principal - Joe DeBonis

Dear Parents/Guardians,

First of all, I would like to say it is an honor to be the educational leader at Poultney High School.  To those of you who are new to PHS, welcome to the family!  And to the rest of you who are returning, welcome back.  I am excited about my first year as principal and am looking forward to each and every student having a successful year.

This year’s theme is change.  There are a lot of changes this year, especially from the new laws passed by Montpelier and even Washington.  You may be asking what are these changes?  One of them is the Personalize Learning Plans (PLP’s), which our returning students have already been working on.  These plans are individualized to each student, and are to help bring relevance to their learning.  Another change is Performance Based Learning (PBL).  To be honest, we still do not have all the answers as to what this will look like, but we have spent the last year learning and determining what is best for PHS.

Yet another change that we have is that there are several new staff members in the building this year.  Ms. Andi Wallach is the new Assistant Principal, and Hannah Corkum and Aaron Pyrzinski are the new Physical Education/Health teachers.   They are all eager to join the PHS family and to work with you and your students for their success.

One thing that hasn’t changed is our start time.  The day begins at 7:50 am.  Please have your students here on time and ready to learn each day.  Also, if your contact number and other information change throughout the year, please be sure to contact Mrs. Grenier so that we have the most up to date information for you.

If at any time you feel your student needs extra help, please feel free to contact the office and we can make sure that they get what they need.  All of our staff is here after school, and there is also time to meet with them during TA and break time in the morning.

Please check our website ( as it is updated daily with our announcements and has links to your student’s teacher’s web pages, as well as to our parent portal.  There is a wealth of information and link on the site, including the student/parent handbook, sports schedules, the school calendar, and staff contact information.

Finally, thank you for allowing us to educate your child.  The biggest advantage to our small size is that we are able to know each and every one of our students individually.  If there are any issues, I encourage you to please contact me.  The only problems that we cannot solve are the ones that we do not know about.  Together, I know that we can make your student’s year successful.
