Welcome to Team Allagash Language Arts.  Please use this site to find information and resources, activities, and standards, as well as a few items for fun! Weekly posts will inform you of learning targets being covered and any homework assignments associated with these targets.

Hello Team Allagash!  I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend and the extra snow!  This is a big week since we're wrapping up our narrative unit, and we're kicking off the Power of One interdisciplinary unit.  The narratives are due on Friday, January 22nd, and I'll be available for extra help during first STAR block and on Tuesday and Thursday after school.  If you're planning on staying after, please let me know in advance.  Let's have a great week!
HOMEWORK:
Narratives are due Friday, January 22nd~if you don't think you'll finish in class, do this at home.
You should all be reading something for at least 15-30 minutes per day.  Come and see me if you need help picking out a book. :)

Happy New Year!  It's hard to believe it's 2016 already!  We have a lot to look forward to this year:  we'll be wrapping up our narrative unit (narratives are due on Friday, January 22nd), we'll be working on phrases and clauses, and, as a part of our interdisciplinary unit, we'll be working on reading, central idea and research.  It's going to be a challenging but fun month.

If you need extra help, or if you need extra time to work on assignments, I will be staying after on Tuesday and Thursday this week.  If you plan on staying, please arrange this with me in advance.
  
HOMEWORK FOR THE WEEK:
Work on your narrative (this is due on 1/22)  if you don't think you'll be able to finish during workshop.
No Red Ink grammar work is due on Friday

Hello Team Allagash!  I hope you had a fun and relaxing Thanksgiving break!  We're going to be continuing our writing realistic fiction unit with the Lucy Calkins' program.  Please make sure you have your writer's notebook for class each day!  I'm looking forward to seeing how your stories develop.

Comments and final target scores for this trimester will be updated in Empower by Friday.  If you need help, I'll be staying after on Tuesday and Thursday this week.  If you plan to stay, please arrange this with me in advance.  Let's make it a great week!

Hello Team Allagash!  It's hard to believe that it's Thanksgiving week already.  As I count my blessings this Thanksgiving, I will give thanks for you all.  I wish you, your family, and your friends a very happy Thanksgiving!

Monday will be a writing lesson, so please make sure you bring your notebooks to class.  Tuesday will be a catch up day, which will give you all a chance to wrap things up before our Thanksgiving break.

 Hello Team Allagash!  We're going to continue with our narrative writing unit this week, so please make sure you bring your writing notebook to class every day.  Your capitalization and punctuation work should be done by now.  If not, please make sure you finish it for homework this week. If you need extra help, I will be staying after on Monday afternoon this week. If you need to stay, please arrange this with me in advance.  Now that you've practiced these skills, I expect you to be applying them in your writing. 
    Also, as a reminder, Wednesday is a half day.

    Hello Team Allagash!  We're going to continue with our narrative writing unit this week, so please make sure you bring your writing notebook to class every day.  Along with our writing, comes some capitalization and punctuation work, which we'll be practicing in class.  If you don't have time to finish things during our workshop, you may stay after for extra work time.  I will be staying after on Thursday afternoon this week.  If you need to stay, please arrange this with me in advance.  
    I look forward to seeing you and your parents for conferences on Tuesday!  Also, as a reminder, there is no school on Wednesday in honor of our veterans!

Hello Team Allagash!  I hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween weekend!  We're beginning our narrative writing unit this week, and we'll start with an on-demand writing prompt on Monday.  From there, we'll work on narrative, word choice, punctuation, and capitalization targets.  So, you MUST complete all work for previous targets:  Use of Language, levels six and seven; Reading Plot, level 5; Reading Character, Level 5.  Check Empower or see me if you're not sure!  Let's make it a great week!

HOMEWORK FOR THE WEEK:
IXL (see attached tracking sheet) to 90%~Due Thursday
Return your parent/teacher conference form if you haven't already!
Check Empower, and complete any missing assignments.

Hello Team Allagash!  It's hard to believe that it's the end of October already!  We'll be finishing up our work with book clubs this week, and your final book club meeting will be on Friday.  Please be sure to bring your book to class on Friday so I can collect them.  As we finish up our book club work, we'll be moving on to new targets, so please make sure you have passed everything in.  Check Empower for missing assignments, and come see me if you need help!  If you need help, or if you need extra time to work, I will be staying after on Monday and Thursday this week.  If you're planning on staying, please arrange this with me earlier in the day or week.  Let's work hard and, as our motto suggests, go with the flow!

Hello Team Allagash!  We're continuing our work with book clubs.  I want to take a moment to congratulate you on some wonderful book club discussions; it's been a pleasure to watch your group meetings.  Just as a reminder, Wednesday is an early release day.

Scholastic book orders are due on Friday, October 23rd.

Hello Team Allagash!  I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend, and I hope that you're all well-rested and ready to go. We'll be continuing our work with book clubs.  You should already be well into section two of your book club book.  Remember that if you're not prepared, you're not only letting yourself down, but also the members of your group!  
In class this week, I'll show you another example of a book club response letter, we'll practice character change due to conflict, and you'll see another video example of what a book club meeting should look and sound like.  Of course, you will also have some workshop time to get some of this work done.  Let's have a great week!

Scholastic Book Order:  If you'd like to place a book order this month, please turn it in by Friday, 10/23.  Thank you!
