About the committee

This committee meets once a month to develop a new evaluation system for teachers within the RSU 5 district. The process of developing an effective evaluation system involves stakeholders from all areas of our district - teachers, administrators, parents, board members, and community members. This site is to provide information about the work in progress, and it is not final unless it is brought to the Board of Directors and voted upon.

This is the third year the committee has been working on the professional growth and evaluation system. Our goal for the 2013-2014 school year is to work in sub-committees to develop the following areas:
  • Determine how to establish a summative effectiveness rating; 
  • Determine rotation and length of the evaluation process;
  • Explore the role of teacher leaders;
  • Determine how to incorporate student feedback.

Student Feedback
Student feedback provides valuable information for professional growth and increased student achievement. How do we gather feedback from students PK-12? What is the best use of this data? Currently scheduled meetings are: October 21 and November 18 from 3:30-5:00pm. Contact Nancy Drolet (droletn@rsu5.org) if you are interested in joining this committee.

Rotation and Length of the Professional Growth and Evaluation Cycle
What is the optimal length and timing of a cycle that supports professional growth? Do we want to stay with a 2 year cycle or change it? Do we vary the length for distinguished teachers? Is a January to January cycle better due to the demands of at the beginning and end of the school year? 

This group is also considering the role of teacher leaders in this process. How do we as educators support each other's professional growth for increased student achievement? Do we want to formalize this as part of the process? Currently scheduled meetings are: October 15, November 19, and December 9 from 3:30-5:00pm. Goals Training
The educator survey we conducted last year asks for training on goals and the use of mentors. Join this committee if you would like to provide input on what we need to include in this training. Currently scheduled meetings are: October 24, November 21, and one more meeting that is to be determined, from 3:30-5:00pm. Summative Effectiveness Rating
We've created our rubrics, now we need to determine an overall score for each core proposition and for the observation. Are some core propositions given greater weight than others? What is the best approach to provide valuable feedback for professional growth and increased student achievement? Currently scheduled meetings are: October 21 and November 28 from 3:30-5:00pm.
