Posted: May 5, 2021 /
Full time position
This position involves providing instruction in nutrition, food preparation, early childhood development, financial literacy, sewing, and general life skills.

Diane Sedler wrote  "This is a great position in a wonderful community and school district.  I would be happy to have a conversation with anyone  who is interested in applying. The staff and kids are great and my FCS program is thriving!  I am the only FCS teacher at the HS level and am willing to share all of my curriculum and Google Classroom with the person hired for the position.  It's very important  to me and of course the kids, that this position is filled.  Please feel free to email me if you are interested and want more information.

The advertised position sounds more daunting than it is.  I've been able to be very independent and have had the opportunity to choose how I organize and instruct my classes. I currently teach a year long Exploring Early Childhood, and semester long Intro to Foods and Nutrition, Advanced Foods (Foods from around the world), Independent Living and Intro to Sewing and Textile Fundamentals."

Dear Valerie,

The wait is over!  We are excited to announce that 2021 AAFCS Virtual Conference will be held June 16-18 and it will be an event that you will not want to miss.

This year, our conference has been extended by one day and will offer even more professional development, networking, and engagement opportunities than our schedule would accommodate last year.  The conference will be even better this year with general sessions focused on rapid-fire questions posed to key experts on relevant topics, more breakout sessions, community events, and must-attend educational experiences being planned by the Minnesota Affiliate.  Many more exciting activities will be announced soon.

Registration for the Virtual Conference will open on April 16.  The member registration rate is $150 and non-member rate is $175.  The student rate remains at $25.

We continue to make the health and safety of our attendees our main priority when we consider annual conference.  We are confident that we made the right decision in December, 2020, when we announced that the 2021 Annual conference would be held virtually, particularly in the current environment.

So, start your engines now! Save June 16-18 on your calendar and plan now to join us for a memorable conference that will be inspirational, innovative and will run like a well-oiled machine.  Share these dates with your FCS colleagues and encourage them to join us virtually in June.

For more information about the three-day event, visit our website or contact annualconf2@aafcs.org.

Order Your Branded FCS Face Masks on October 26

CDC recommends that you wear face masks in public settings around people who don’t live in your household and when you can’t stay 6 feet away from others. Masks help stop the spread of COVID-19 to others.  Beginning on Monday, October 26, will be able to purchase a branded FCS mask from AAFCS. They are functional and a great way to raise awareness and start a conversation with others about our profession.  The masks are 100% percent content, 4 layers, 6.5” wide and approximately 5” tall, blue with white imprint and are made in the USA.   AAFCS members will receive a link to order masks. For more information, contact nbock@aafcs.org.

Information on FCS Education Website:

A national FCS education website has been launched that is the home page for all things related to promotion, preparation and support of FCS education.  The primary goal of this action is to create an online directory of FCS programs, courses to help meet certification requirements and resources for FCS education (including a series of free webinars). It is very new and there is much more to come - but the framework is in place.

Communication Campaign

In addition, AAFCS and the national FCS coalition are launching a major communications campaign to promote FCS education. Nancy Bock (AAFCS) is the project director and will begin hosting virtual leader training starting in December.  She is dynamic, experienced and willing to work with us and others in promoting FCS education.

Grant Money

There is still a significant amount of grant money available for states to access for participation in the grant.  It can be used for professional development and training - it could help support the efforts described above or something similar.  It can be used to bring national leaders to our region to work with us on our action plan or activities related to this grant.
