WES Annual Food Drive
Mrs. Bartlett’s 3rd grade class organizes a food drive to
benefit the Rutland Area Food Shelf in Rutland, VT. Non-perishable
food items are collected during the month of February in the classrooms
as well as local businesses, the Town Hall, and the Gilbert Hart
Library. The 3rd graders advertise, collect, and count the food, while
doing math graphing activities along the way! The students take a
field trip to the food shelf to personally deliver the food. Now more
than ever, we can make a difference, and students at Wallingford
Elementary School are up for the challenge!
We participate annually in the “Pennies for Patients” program. This is a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We collect pennies for 3 weeks in March. All funds raised during the Pennies program will support research and patient services for the individuals in Vermont who are affected by leukemia and/or lymphoma. Let’s get back over the $100.00 mark for 2011!
2009 - $161.39
Each fall, our kindergarten class organizes
and runs a penny harvest throughout the school. Each classroom is
given a penny jar for donated loose change, although paper bills are
also accepted! Mrs. Maniery’s kindergarten class collects the money,
counts it, and donates all funds to the Mill River National Honor
Society. The money raised is used to fill food baskets for local
community members in need.
Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart
Since 1998, Steve Allen, our physical education teacher has provided the opportunity for students to participate in the Hoops for Heart and Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. Each year, students sign up to participate by gathering monetary pledges. Then, during a set period of time, students either jump rope or play basketball. It’s great exercise and it’s a great way to raise money for the American Heart Association. To date, Wallingford Elementary School has raised $7,270!
