Marcus Jones wrote three hefty manuscripts over the course of his career—Shrubs and Trees of Utah, Flora of Flathead Lake, and Flora of the Great Plateau—though unfortunately none of these were published within his lifetime. His original manuscripts remain boxed in the Library at RSABG, in legible but aging condition. Though these regions have been explored and discussed since Jones’ death, these documents remain historically and scientifically significant as early botanical investigations of the flora of those regions of the western United States.
Jones' gravestone at Oak Park Cemetery, Claremont.
Though he worked to publish his grand Flora of the Great Plateau during his last years in Claremont, he was unable to fully complete this oeuvre before his death in 1934.
