Would you like to help our Booster Club on Thursday, 12 June?

posted Jun 6, 2014, 9:59 AM by tedd_shimp@roundrockisd.org

Parents,

Hopefully, you are planning to attend the Fish Camp Cadet Promotion Ceremony to be held at 10AM on Thursday, 12 June at RRHS (bldg 1000).

This is a significant event for us because it represents the first of many achievements that our cadet class of 2018 will accomplish.

If you are planning to attend our promotion ceremony, then Mrs. Kelly Dorman and Mrs. Shannon Wiseman (two great moms in our parent run "Devil Dog Booster Club") would like a little bit of help in setting up for the post-ceremony reception.

If you would like to help our Booster Club set up the light refreshments, decorations, etc, please let Kelly know by sending her an email at:

skdorman@austin.rr.com

Thank you!

Parents and Cadets,

Cadet Kyle Lance (our Cadet Battalion Sergeant Major) will be completing his Boys Scouts of America Eagle Project this weekend and he needs your help!

Kyle has decided that he wants to renovate and repair our RRHS MCJROTC Obstacle Course (located behind the RRHS Baseball Field centerfield fence).

His plans are impressive, but he can't do it alone.  He needs YOUR help.  Here are the details:

Where: Round Rock High School, at the MCJROTC Obstacle Course

When: Saturday May 3rd 8am-1pm & Sunday May 4th 1pm-5pm

What to bring: Wear work clothes and bring gloves, sun screen, your water bottle.  If you have tools, please bring shovels or spade, trowel, hoe, post hole digger

This Eagle Project requires the removal and building of obstacles at the ROTC obstacle course. Helpers will be digging holes and removing grass, installing posts and building obstacles.

Please RSVP if you plan on attending to the listed email addresses so that Kyle can plan on appropriate food for those attending:

RRHS to honor memory of graduate

From RRISD's Press Release:

RRHS to honor memory of graduate with air rifle range dedication ceremony March 7

February 28, 2014 – Round Rock High School’s Marine Corps Junior ROTC (MCJROTC) will host the official dedication ceremony of its indoor air rifle marksmanship range in memory of Cpl. Joseph E. Fite, USMC on Friday, March 7 at 9:30 a.m.  The event will take place at the school’s 100 Building Lecture Hall, 300 N. Lake Creek Drive, Round Rock.

Fite’s father, Olin Fite, will serve as the keynote speaker for the dedication ceremony. Round Rock High’s trombone ensemble will perform the national anthem and Principal Natalie Nichols will provide opening remarks. The ceremony will end with the unveiling of the official plaque, in memory of Fite, that will be mounted on the front wall of the rifle range.

An informal reception with light refreshments will immediately follow the dedication ceremony. Guests can then tour the range. Special guests who are confirmed to attend include:

Round Rock ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Flores
U.S. District 31 Rep. John Carter
Round Rock Mayor Alan McGraw
Former District 5 State Senator Steve Ogden
Former Round Rock City Council member Rufus Honeycutt
Former RRHS Band Director Ed Stein
“Cpl. Fite was a fine young man, a patriot and a good Marine,” said RRHS MCJROTC Senior Marine Instructor Tedd R. Shimp, USMC (Ret). “We are honored that his family would permit our program to be associated with his name.  We look forward to telling our cadets about Cpl. Fite for years to come.”

Fite graduated from RRHS in 1999 and was active in the school’s Dragon Band, National Honor Society and the MCJROTC program. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Texas where he played in the Longhorn Band, participated in Navy ROTC and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Fite was deployed to Iraq in August 2004 was killed in action in January 2005.

The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously in January to rename the indoor air rifle range the Cpl. Joseph E. Fite (USMC) Shooting Range.

Each year, over 100 cadets train on basic firearms safety and air rifle marksmanship in this indoor facility.  Additionally, the school’s three competitive shooting teams have received honors in regional and national air rifle marksmanship events for the past five years.

This event is open to the public, but seating is limited. To reserve a seat, contact Maj. Shimp tedd_shimp@roundrockisd.org.

Guests should also check in at the main office before the ceremony.
