Welcome to Mrs. Clements' Cub Classroom Page

  • Welcome to First Grade Cubs!
No snow on Snow Day, but fun was had by all. We made sock snowmen, paper and pipe cleaner snowflakes and marshmallow creations. While enjoying hot chocolate and powdered "snowy" donuts in our PJs, we learned all about Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley and how his interest in snowflakes and photography changed how the world sees the beauty of a snowflake.

This week we will continue our study of place value in math. Our Cubs will build upon their addition strategies as we learn about the making ten addition strategy. Problem solving and number sense will round out each lesson. In language arts we will expand our vocabulary as we begin our unit on poetry. In word study we will look for homophones. Our focus in phonics will be long E spelling patterns like ee, ea and ey. We will be spending 2 weeks on this unit.  It, saw, who, could and its will be the high frequency words we hunt for this week. In science we will continue our study of weather, objects in the sky and seasons.

Your child will bring home a list of words in their Monday folder. Look for fun ways to practice these high frequency words and short a spelling patterns. Don't worry if you have a full schedule after school...we will be working on these patterns at school as well.
