What is Coding?

Coding, is computer programming - giving a computer a set of precise instructions.

Code powers our digital world. Every website, smartphone app, computer programme, calculator, car, washing machine and even microwave relies on code so it can operate. Coders design the programmes that make these appliances work the way we want them to - this makes coders the architects and builders of the digital age.

Code is the new literacy - what separates those who simply have an idea, from those who make their ideas a reality, is the ability to code.

Coding teaches skills for life in the 21st Century - It improves problem solving, provides opportunities to be creative and develop teamwork potential. Students will develop computational thinking skills, and having digital skills will improve their chances of being employed in the future. It has the potential to take students from being passive consumers to active designers and producers of technology.
