Welcome to Roland-Story Elementary Counseling Department

I am Mandi O'Loughlin, the elementary school counselor. I am the full time counselor in this building, joined by the middle school and high school counselors on our team. My husband, Brett and I are residents of Story City and together we have 2 boys, Cale (5) and Tate (1). I have been an elementary counselor since 2013 and truly love the elementary children and my job!

Join me for a preview of components of our school counseling program.

Mission Statement:  Building a foundation of lifetime learning for academic, social/personal, and career success for all students in a global society.

Philosophy:  The Roland-Story Guidance and Counseling philosophy is to work with the school community to assist students in acquiring essential skills necessary to be lifelong learners and successful citizens.

  • Each child has feelings and a need to feel important.
  • Each child needs caring adults to learn emotional intimacy.
  • A child grows in a safe environment.
  • A child learns trust from adults he/she can trust in truth and reliability.
  • A child needs to release concerns, fears or problems to maintain good mental health and stress relief.
  • Each child needs personal responsibility to develop self-esteem.
  • Each child has basic needs of survival, love, friendship, belonging, self-worth, and self-actualization.
