WENTWORTH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM

S= Show Kindness

A=Always Respectful
R=Responsible & Ready

WELCOME TO THE 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR!
     Hello Wentworth students, parents staff and community!  I am happy to be serving as your school counselor for the fourth year. I have a lot of things planned for this year that will hopefully enrich character/career education for your child while providing any emotional support.
     During this school year I will be teaching character education classes to K-3rd grades in the "special" rotation and will go into 4th and 5th grade class rooms once a month to cover guidance topics.  The topics of my lesson will involve providing tips for interacting appropriately socially,  handling focusing issues, handling anger and making good choices just to name a few!
     In addition to teaching I will support teachers through our SSMT process, provide individual and group counseling and assist in coordinating our continue PBIS program, involving our "feather" incentives, celebrations and lesson planning to reinforce good behavior at school.  I am excited about this new year.  Please let me know if I can support you and/or your child.

Guidance Lessons Taught

posted Oct 12, 2016, 6:01 PM by Tracey Anderson   [ updated Jan 12, 2017, 11:43 AM ]

I have enjoyed providing guidance classes to your children during the months of November and December.  During this time together we have discussed the following topics:  the importance of giving, what it means to be a good citizen (thinking of the good of all and not just self), how powerful it is to pass along kind acts, the importance of having empathy and we shared a gift with each other by giving compliments.  Please take a moment to ask them about guidance class and reinforce these good character traits.  Let me know if I can help in any way by supporting your child.

10/12/16 - I have enjoyed working with your children during our guidance classes each week.  I have covered the following topics during my lessons taught in  August, September and October:   What it means to be a bully versus having a “mean moment,”  how to handle bullying, the importance of saying kind words, how to handle anger without getting into trouble, the importance of having courage, the importance of doing everything in moderation the importance of avoid interruption when others talk, how powerful words can be, making friends and what one can do to focus in class, at home or elsewhere.

    Please take a moment to discuss what they have learned about these topics at home and really connect to our lessons by asking the following to your child depending on their grade level:

Kindergarten students - ask them about having “the grouchies”

1st grade - ask them about Hunter’s amazing remote control

2nd grade - ask them about Simon’s Hook story

3rd grade - ask about the book where the little boy used bubble wrap to handle a bully

4th grade - ask about the Secret Bully story

5th grade - ask them the difference between a “mean moment” and bullying
