Family and Consumer Science Home

Welcome to my Reidsville High School Website.  As you see, my name is Ann Chaney and I am a 37-year veteran Family and Consumer Science teacher. I have been in North Carolina seven years and retired from Virginia with 30 years experience. I still reside in Virginia, making a 65 mile round trip adventure every school day...but it is worth it!!!
I am a Radford University graduate with a Major in Family and Consumer Science (what many of you remember as Home Economics) and a minor in Education.  My 30 years of experience was with Henry County Public Schools inVirginia.  I have a daughter, Carie, who lives in Savannah, Georgia and a son, Justin, who lives in Danville, Virginia.  Both are my pride and joy in life along with ALL my students who I have had the honor to teach.
Currently, I am RHS's CTE Lead.  I enjoy working with my colleagues in helping Reidsville High be the best high school in Rockingham County.  It is truly our goal to help all students be successful during the time they are with us.
I teach three different courses. First, is Parenting and Child Development...a wonderful course to prepare students for the most challenging career choice of thier life.  Teaching students to be "Great" parents has been one of my major goals during my teaching career!  Next, is Early Childhood Education I and II.  We have a child care facility on site that allows students to investigate the possibilities of working with young children as their career choice. Both courses are excellent in teaching students how to work with and teach young children.
My hobbies include gardening, yardwork, and my koi/goldfish ponds that I designed and created myself.  I also enjoy riding my 4-wheeler with friends in the mountains.  Since my daughter only lives about 10 minutes from Tybee Beach, GA, I am a lover of the beach and go as often as I can. Nascar Racing is a favorite since I have a brother-in-law who raced many years in every circuit. I am an active member of Horsepasture Christian Church, in Horsepasture, VA where I substitute teach Sunday School and develop and run worship service power point presentations each Sunday. I just recently lost my precious cocker spaniel, Ollie, who had been my faithful friend for over 11 years. She is GREATLY missed.
I feel VERY blessed to be a part of the Reidsville High School family!  Below are the basic rules that I use for management of my classroom.

Great fun at the Beach!
My ponds are very relaxing and it's fun to watch the fish.                            Racing is in my family's blood. Nascar Rookie of-the-Year, Jimmy Hensley is my brother-in-law.  Great times! Now, my great nephew Colby is racing Go-Karts! Future Nascar star!!!
My faith is what keeps me grounded and strong!
Love to ride whenever I can!

My dear sweet Ollie! The best friend anyone could ask for!
