Teaching Philosophy
 Effective teaching requires three "R's":
Rigor, Relationship, and Relevance.
Rigor:  I hold fast to the idea that the best teachers have high expectations and maintain a class that demands the best from its teacher and students.
Relationship:  I have found that when I forge a meaningful student-teacher relationship, then I can teach more effectively to the students as people.  This "r" also involves mutual respect between the teacher and student.
Relevance:  Students are more motivated to learn concepts and skills that affect their lives in an important way.  This "r" includes students the latitude to work in a way that suits their learning style.  It also includes focused and timely feedback on assignments, quizzes, tests, and essays.
