What's a pop-up blocker?

A pop-up appears on top of the browser window of a Web site. Pop-up ads are used on the Web for advertising; to draw visitors to a website, and to collect email addresses. Sometimes, pop-ups are used to launch malware or viruses that can damage your computer or allow your personal information to be captured.

Because pop-ups are considered annoying and potentially dangerous, pop-up  blockers disable the pop-ups from running. If you need to temporarily turn off your pop-up blocker, be sure to turn it back on when you're finished.
