Who can apply for a Retired Educator license?

In order to apply for the Retired Educator License, the following requirements must be met:

  • Hold a valid Level II License
  • Have 15 years licensed experience
  • Have withdrawn from active service or will withdraw from active service within six months
  • Are receiving or will receive within six months an Educators’ Retirement Allowance

If I have a Retired Educator license, can I renew it?    

Yes, you can renew it as many times as you want.  God bless you for staying in the game!

What am I going to do?

You will be applying for a new Retired Educator License, not renewing your Level 2 license.  If you already hold a Retired Educator License, you will be renewing it.

How many hours of professional development are needed to relicense?

45 licensing hours (3 credits) are required for each endorsement carried on the license.  Your hours can overlap between endorsements if the professional learning connects with both endorsements.  These hours need to have been completed during the last three years. A list of approved professional development activities is attached below.   

What do I need to send to the LSB through my ALiS account BEFORE I fill out my new application in ALiS?

Please submit as many of your PL Activities as you can before you submit your renewal application.  You will need to upload the certificate, letter or transcript that supports your activity (ALiS refers to these as 'documentation'  Watch this video tutorial to learn how to submit your paperwork in ALiS.

What additional paperwork or information do I need to submit in ALiS as part of my renewal application?

After you submit your online application to the LSB, a new page labeled "Checklist" will open in your application.  On this page, you must upload the following documents:

-Any document that meets the requirement of proof of your retirement (called a 'pension verification').  This can take many forms, for example, if you are currently collecting a pension you could submit a disbursement stub.  A letter from the pension office is also appropriate. 

-(Only for School Nurses, PE teachers, Health teachers, Driver's Ed teachers, SLPs and School Psychologists) Copies of your current professional licenses and certifications.
