Pottery will expose students to functional, non-functional, and sculptural ceramics. Students will learn basic hand building skills: pinch, coil, slab, and mold making. Students will also have an opportunity to work on the pottery wheel. Students will study past and present ceramic work to inspire and educate them about what is possible with clay. Students will learn the different stages of clay and how to manipulate the clay at various points in the process. Students will learn about how clay is fired using traditional and alternative firing methods. Students will assess their work, and choose their strongest pieces to display within the school.
