Digital Footprints

digital footprint is a trail of data you create while using the Internet. It includes the websites you visit, emails you send, and information you submit to online services. A "passive digital footprint" is a data trail you unintentionally leave online. The more emails you send, the more your digital footprint grows.

--How to Manage Your Digital Footprint Safely:

  • Keep your personal details private.
  • Always talk to your parents before giving out your name, address or phone number online.
  • Never share your username or password with anyone. (except your parents) Treat your password like your toothbrush … don’t share it with anyone AND change it often.
  • Think before you post. Once posted, it can be difficult or impossible to remove or get back.
  • Never post things that you don't want others to know about or that you wouldn’t say to someone’s face.
  • Be respectful of other people’s content that you post or share. (For example, a photo that a friend took is their property, not yours. You should post it online only if you have their permission.)
  • Let an adult know if something you read or see online makes you feel uncomfortable, worried or upset.
  • Always remember to logoff when you have finished with an online service. Otherwise people could use your account and your personal information without your permission.
