During the month of January Sixth Grade will begin a new digital art project. They will be learning about how Andy Warhol, and other “Pop Artists” of the 1950’s and 60’s used modern technology and culture in their art. The Sixth Graders will then create their own take on Pop Art using photography, digital drawing hardware and software, and collaged images from popular magazines.  Fifth Grade will be learning about Optical Artists, who created paintings that tried to fool the viewer’s eye into seeing movement or depth. Just type “optical art” into google images and you will see many examples. The Fifth Graders will create their own artwork that gives the illusion of movement or depth. Fourth Grade will be learning about the Folk Artist Grandma Moses. She was a painter who lived in Vermont and created paintings that depicted scenes from her childhood memories. The Fourth Graders will create paintings of scenes from their own memories. They will focus on Vermont and what makes it unique and special to grow up here. Second and Third Grade will begin creating self-portraits for this year’s Square 1 Art project. Part of the self-portrait project will incorporate ideas from the illustrations in one of this years Red Clover books, Neville. First Grade will be painting and learning about the famous Abstract Artist, Wasilly Kandinsky. Kindergartners be focusing on recognizing, naming, and using many different types of line. By the end of January they will be experts on straight, zig-zag, wavy, curved, and several other types of lines.
