February will begin with the opening of the Annual Student Art Show at the Brandon Artists' Guild. The Show will run from February 1st through the 26th. Students who have work in the show were sent home with a letter notifying them of the opening celebration but everyone, even students who don't have work in the show, are invited to stop in to the Guild at any time during the month of February to check it out.

During February Sixth Grade will be finishing their "Pop Art" projects by using images of popular culture from magazines, packaging, and the internet to create a collage. The collage will be combined with their digital self-portraits to create the finished piece. Fifth Grade will be finishing their "Op Art" projects and begin working with paper mache on a special sculpture project which will be revealed at the end of the year Celebration of Student Learning. While the details of the project will remain "under wraps" for the moment I can reveal that they will be learning about paper mache, a variety of sculpture techniques, and working as important and constructive member of a team... Fourth Grade will finishing their landscape paintings and beginning a sculpture project inspired by the Vermont Author and Illustrator Jason Chin. We will be focusing on his book Coral Reefs in anticipation of his visit to Neshobe in March. Third Grade will be learning about fairy tales in their classrooms. They will outline a character of their own design and create drawings and paintings of them in art. Second Grade will continue to learn about the most common subjects matters artist's use for inspiration. So far this year they have learned about and created abstract art and a self-portrait, their next challenge will be creating a still-life. First Grade and Kindergarten will both be creating their Square 1 Art for this year. They will practice cutting, gluing, and combining simple shapes to make more complex ones, while creating collages with a winter theme.

Although order forms don't go home for a couple months most classes have finished their Square 1 Art so be on the look out for them in late March.
