Choice-Based Art!(?)

For students in grades 4-6 the art program at Neshobe is in the midst of a transition. We are beginning to work with an art class model called "choice-based art". Below is a description of what choice-based art means (the description was borrowed from a fellow choice-based art teacher and slightly modified by me).

Our classroom currently has a drawing, collage, painting, sculpture, printmaking, clay, and paper mache center. The centers are opened gradually (only drawing and collage are open this week) to ensure that each one is mastered (or at least under control) before moving on to the next. Much of this experience will be new for everyone so we will be patient, work hard, and constantly check in to see if choice-based art increases student's, engagement, excitement, creativity, and overall enjoyment of art.
