Attendance / Tardiness

1.0 Policy
1.1 It is the policy of Robert Morris University to have an established attendance/tardiness policy in order to meet the needs of each department and the University.

2.0 Scope
2.1 This policy applies to full-time, regular part-time, and part-time employees.

3.0 Procedure
3.1 Employees are required to report to work regularly and on time.

3.2 Employees are required to report unscheduled tardiness and unscheduled absences to their department manager or designee one hour before the start of their work schedule. Employees must report in daily unless the length of absence is determined in advance.

3.2.1 The department manager will determine the location that duties are to be performed in order to meet the operational needs of the department or University.

3.2.2 In a situation where the department manager or his/her designee is not available, tardiness or absences should be reported to another individual of authority in the department.

3.3 Employees cannot exceed his or her allotted time off (vacation, absent/emergency, sick leave days or other paid time off). See "Benefits" policy for further information on time allotted.

3.4 Employees with excessive attendance infractions or patterns of infractions may be subject to the appropriate University disciplinary procedure.

3.5 Any absence without approved leave (i.e., not reporting to work without calling off according to department procedure) may be subject to a one day suspension.

3.5.1 A second absence without approved leave within a 12 month period may be subject to a three day suspension.

3.5.2 A third absence without approved leave within a 12 month period may be subject to termination of employment.

3.6 If an employee is absent for three consecutive work days without a leave authorized by his/her department manager, fails to report for work, or fails to return from an approved leave without notifying his/her department manager, the employee will be considered to have resigned without notice.

3.6.1 Accrued vacation leave will be lost because of such notification failure.

4.0 Definitions
4.1 Allotted Time Off - Approved vacation days, absent/emergency days, sick leave days, personal day, leave of absence, compensatory time (if applicable), professional time (if applicable), bereavement leave, jury duty or any other approved time off.

4.2 Tardiness - Reporting to work beyond the scheduled work time. A seven minute grace period will be recognized University wide.

4.3 Attendance Infraction - Unscheduled reporting off and tardiness.

4.4 Report Off - Any absence from work that is not covered by an approved sick leave, leave of absence, funeral leave, jury duty or any other approved time off.
