Work Abroad

In today's competitive global work environment, it is increasingly important to demonstrate that you have international experience. Working abroad not only gives you international work experience but also provides a highly marketable resume experience.

Working abroad is an incredible way to gain real world experience in a particular academic field or future profession. For example, international business majors can learn more about global markets simply by shopping in downtown London or Dublin.

Work Abroad programs give individuals the out-of-classroom exposure to cultures, language, environments, people groups, ideas, and traditions that they may not otherwise have an opportunity to experience in their hometown. Traveling overseas often gives participants a new perspective on life and provides lasting memories and stories to share with others upon returning to their hometown.

The Washington Center

The Washington Center is the largest independent, nonprofit academic internship program in the country. It brings together exceptional and dedicated college students and civic, governmental and business leaders, hundreds of colleges and universities, scores of public and private host organizations (or internship sites), and over 40,000 alumni. Founded 35 years ago, TWC is a unique educational center based on a fully integrated mix of professional experience, academic coursework and real-life challenges.

Interns at The Washington Center get more than work experience to add to their résumés—they get an inside look at how the real world works. The internship sites, whether private businesses, nonprofits, international organizations or government agencies, are highly successful, often prominent organizations. No matter what your academic major or professional field, there is likely to be a program and an internship that’s right for you.
