History

The first Friday noon meeting of the Rotary Club of Germantown was held on November 23rd, 1928 at Lucille's Tea Shoppe with 16 Charter members present.  The club has continued to meet on Friday at noon ever since.  

Charter night banquet was held on Tuesday, January 15th, 1929 at the school building with PTA serving meals.  Visting delegations were present from Dayton, Miamisburg, Franklin, Middletown, Hamilton, Eaton, Lebanon and Richmond, Indiana. 

In May 1930 the Rotary Club was the charter sponsor of Boy Scout Troop 29 and continued sponsoring the troop into the 1960s.  Troop 29 meets at and is currently sponsored by Emmanuel's Lutheran Church. 

Club member Rev. Charles Messmer served as District Governor during the 1966-67 year.

Rotary shelter in Veterans Memorial Park was built in 1967.

The Rotary Club first provided a $500 scholarship to a graduating Valley View High School Senior in 1987.  The scholarship amount was increased to $1000 in 1988, to $1500 in 1990 and to $2000 in 1996.  Starting in 2005 the club added a second $2000 scholarship per year, which continues to this day.

In June 2004 the club purchased Outdoor Highway Movable Bleacher which seats 243 for $29,113.  This bleacher is used at Kercher Park and at the annual Pretzel Festival in Veterans Memorial Park.

Former club member Rev. Sivaji Subramaniam now member Rotary Club of Centerville served as District Governor during the 2005-06 year.  

In 2006 the club provided labor and $54,743 toward the new $84,743 playground equipment at Veterans Memorial Park. 

The Rotary Club co-sponsors the Interact Club at Valley View High School in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Farmersville.
