At Pecatonica

Win 9-8

April 22

Tuesday night the team traveled to Blanchardville for a non-conference game vs the Pecatonica Vikings. The Chieftains won 9-8 with a come from behind victory. Pecatonica got the bats going early and often, scoring in every inning except the 6th and 7th. The Chieftains found themselves down 5-8 going into the top of the 6th. Dana Walstead sparked the Chieftains with a shot to right field and legging out a triple. Amanda Meister kept the fire going and nailed another triple, scoring Dana. Kaylee Hanke stepped up to bat and grounded out, but scored Meister from 3rd to make the score 7-8. Ashley Meckley worked her way on base with a walk and stole second base on the first pitch to Grimm. Nicole Grimm doubled to center field and scored Meckley to tie it up. Nicole Grimm was aggressive on the bases, stealing 3rd and and scoring on a wild pitch. Grimm’s scored gave the Chieftains a one-run lead in the 6th inning.  Defensively, the Chieftains were able to hold Pecatonica in the bottom of the 6th and 7th innings.  Amanda Meister earned the win in the circle, allowing 11 hits and striking out 11.  Pecatonica earned more hits and runs on the Chieftains than any opponent they have faced so far this season. Leading hitters were Dana Walstead, 2 for 3 with a triple, Ashley Meckley, 2 for 4, and Amanda Meister, 2 for 5 with a triple and 1 RBI. Kaylee Hanke had a double and 1 RBI, Tiara Thomas had a double with 2 RBI’s, and Nicole Grimm had a double with 1 RBI.

Home vs Mineral Point

Loss 2-0

April 21

On a beautiful Monday night at Jaycee Park, the Chieftains hosted the Mineral Point Pointers. The Chieftains fell 2-0, despite not giving up any hits or earned runs to the Pointers. Amanda Meister started out strong in the circle, striking out the first 7 batters she faced. She would end up striking out 13 in the game. The Pointers two runs were manufactured from walks, and were aided by defensive throwing errors. The Chieftains struggled to get the bats going, only earning 2 hits on the night. This is uncharacteristic for this usually well-hitting team, and is essential to defeating strong opponents.

At Iowa-Grant

Loss 2-1

April 17

On Thursday, April 17th the Chieftains traveled to Cobb to take on the SWAL conference leading Iowa-Grant Panthers. Riverdale was defeated 2-1 in a low scoring defensive battle. Kaylee  Hanke started off strong in the 1st inning with a line drive shot to the outfield wall, earning a double. Emily Drone would then hit shallow ball to right field to score Hanke for the only run of the game.  The Riverdale defense was strong behind Amanda Meister in the circle, holding the Panthers scoreless until the bottom of the 6th inning. With bases loaded and 2 outs, Iowa-Grant hit a blooper into shallow right field to score 2 runs.  The Chieftains weren’t able to muster any offense in the top of the 7th to come from behind. Overall a solid game defensively for the Chieftains. Another strong outing by Meister in the circle, striking out 11 Iowa Grant batters. Leading hitters for the Chieftains were Emily Drone, 2 for 2 with a double, Tiara Thomas, 2 for 3 with a double, and Nicole Grimm, 2 for 3. Kaylee Hanke also had a double on the night.

Autism Awareness Game

The 2nd Annual Riverdale Softball Autism Awareness game will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at the Riverdale Softball Tournament. The first game will begin at 10:00 when the Chieftains will take on Weston at Jaycee Park. Funds raised will be donated to the Special Education Department at Riverdale. In 2013, the softball team raised $1,234.00.

At Richland Center

Win 8-2

April 12

The Chieftains traveled to Richland Center for a tournament on Saturday, April 12th. In the first game we faced the Richland Center Hornets and won by a score of 8-2. Amanda Meister pitched another solid game. The Hornets had a very difficult time at the plate as Meister recorded 12 strikeouts. Offensively the Chieftains had 18 hits in the game. Dana Walstead, Nicole Grimm, and Kaylee Hanke each had a double, and Hanke tacked on another triple. Hanke and Grimm finished the game with 3 RBI’s a piece. Walstead 4 for 4, Grimm went 3 for 3, Thomas 2 for 3, and Klebesadel 2 for 3. The second game vs Reedsburg was cancelled due to weather. 

Home VS Southwestern

Win 15-5

April 10

Riverdale played their third conference game of the week at home on Thursday, April 10th against the Southwestern Wildcats. The Chieftains were victorious by a score of 15-5. Again it was Amanda Meister in the pitching circle who led Riverdale to their third consecutive conference win. Meister had a season high of 11 strikeouts. Macey Klebesadel also had a great defensive game making two big plays in left field. On offense, all nine girls in the lineup marked at least one hit against Southwestern’s pitcher, Kuhl. Leaders on offense were: Amanda Meister, 4 for 5 with two doubles and 5 RBI’s, Kaylee Lisney 3 for 3 with a triple and 2 RBI’s, Kaylee Hanke 2 for 4 with 1 RBI, Ashley Meckley 2 for 3, Nicole Grimm with a triple and 1 RBI, Dana Walstead 2 for 2, Emily Drone with 1 RBI, and Macey Klebesadel with 1 RBI. The Chieftains wrapped up conference play for the week with a 3-0 league record.

Home VS Fennimore

Win 12-2

April 8

The Chieftains played right away again on Tuesday at home against Fennimore. This was another big conference game for Riverdale. The Chieftains beat the Golden Eagles in 6 innings, 12-2. The girls were consistent on offense scoring at least one run in each of the 6 innings. Amanda Meister pitched 5 innings, recording 6 strikeouts and Kaylee Lisney finished in 1 inning of relief to close out the game. Offensively, the Chieftains attacked the Golden Eagles defense all the way through the batting order. Meister went 2 for 4, Kaylee Hanke had 2 RBI’s, Ashley Meckley went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s, Nicole Grimm went 1 for 3, Tiara Thomas went 3 for 3 with a double and 4 RBI’s, and Kaylee Lisney went 3 for 4 with a double.

At Darlington

The team traveled to Darlington on Monday, April 7th for their season opener against the Redbirds. The Chieftains prevailed with a 9-2 victory. Amanda Meister pitched a solid first game marking 4 strikeouts and allowing only 3 hits. Leading hitters for the Chieftains were Dana Walstead who was 3 for 4 and Tiara Thomas who was 2 for 3 Amanda Meister and Ashley Meckley each went 2 for 4 at the plate. Dana Walstead and Nicole Grimm both had 2 RBI’s.
