These are all rough outlines of the journals. See me for the details.
Journal 1:
Color List Poem/I prefer poem
It was as blue as...
Pick your favorite color and then list as many things that you can that are that color. OR do an I prefer poem. Example here.
Journal 2
Make a list of your "warm fuzzies." (That's a really strange way to say it, I know. There's a story behind it. You can ask me.) These are things/places/items that make you feel that all is right in the world. These are good things in your life. We will craft this into a poem about a person...someone who has grown on you. We'll compare the person to your list.
Journal 3
list stuff you want to do in the future
Journal 4
100 Personal Experience Topics. Choose an item from off of the list. Write the one page story that describes the item. Then decide what the moral/larger truth of the experience is. Write the poem that condenses the story in the first stanza and describes the moral in the second.
Journal 5
Nature poem journal. See me.
Journal 6
Sounds/smells
Journal 7
Fill in the lines. The link is here.
Journal 8
Sonnet. Follow the standard Shakespearian or Italian sonnet format. You can google it or ask me.
Journal 9
Haiku. You need to do 3 haiku poems. One MUST be about nature. Click here for a description.
Journal 10
Pass the sheet around the class. Here is the link. See me or Mr. Mikesell for the lines you will need to write. We passed them around the room, but you'll need to do them on your own which is kind of a bummer, but you'll make it work.
Journals 11 and 12 on your own
Journal 13 Picture poem--bring your own picture
Look at the picture and notice the details: What's in the center? What's in the top right corner? What is the context of the picture? Why was the person there who took the picture? What will happen/How will this picture be different in 12 hours? Have something dreamlike happen in the picture.
Journal 14 Choices and problems with choices
Make a list of choices and then pick one and the make a list of problems with one of those choices.
Zen Pencils--Sylvia Plath Fig Tree
Journal15
Random words from YouTube. Listing of a bunch of words from YouTube. You need to decide on what the them seems to be from all the words and create a poem around that.
Journal 16 Foreign Translation
Do a sight translation of one of these foreign language poems.
Journal 17 Random word list again.
This was the day half the class was gone (Nov. 7). We all made a random word list poem. If you weren't here you are on your own to generate a random word list.
Journal 18 Guided Imagery
This is the journal where I had you think of a happy or sad day and then I had you put your head down and think of a bunch of things to walk you through the scene. Here were the questions:
Look around in the scene. Who was there? What were they wearing? What were they saying? What were people doing? What time of year was it? What was the weather like? What kind of sounds were there? What kinds of smells were there? What were you doing? What were you saying? How did the day end (the very end of the day...what were you doing?)
Journal 19 Revision Poem
You should use the poem that you turned in for the poem packet for this one. Use the suggestions and write a "new" poem. Turn both poems in.
Journal 20 and 21 are on your own
