Teaching philosophy in a nutshell:
When a student learns something, it only sticks if it makes sense against the background of something they already know. Therefore, it is a teacher's job to create those connections and show students where those connections exist--even if they don't think there are any.
I'm very careful about the homework that I give. I sure hope it isn't busy work.
I think students sometimes need many opportunities to show what they have learned, and that means that assessments and tests can come in many forms.
I think school should be hard work, but the kind of hard work that doesn't seem that bad.
I think you get out of things what you put into them. That's true of school and life in general.
I believe the role of a teacher is to be a competent, caring, and reasonable individual in a student's world.
