Dear Parents / Guardians and Students,

My name is Leilani Lamoreaux and I will be teaching your son's/daughter's Washington State History/Geography class this year. My husband and I have three boys who keep us very busy! I enjoy sports, especially soccer, as well as boating and other outdoors activities.

I have high expectations for my students both academically and socially. I will encourage all students to be responsible in their behaviors to achieve those expectations. I work hard to make my classroom productive and the curriculum as engaging as possible. As the research shows, a child's success in the classroom is directly related to the parent's involvement in their academic careers. I believe that you the parent, and me, the teacher, are a team in your student's school success. Therefore, I will be in contact with you throughout the year in regards to what is happening in our class. You can also stay up to date on your student's academic progress by accessing Skyward on a regular basis. I encourage you to contact me at any time, with any comments, concerns or questions.

Our curriculum is very challenging. State standards require that all students meet rigorous grade level expectations. Our classroom environment will include a variety of activities, independent work time, and small group work. We will be emphasizing note taking skills, as well as researching skills in addition to our history and geography units of study. We will be working towards these expectations throughout the year, as well as supporting the Common Core grade level expectations for reading and writing.

I believe that education is a powerful tool that leads to opportunities and choices. It is my belief that the skills learned at school can be used throughout life, in many capacities. I appreciate all the hard work you do as parents and I thank you for supporting your student in their academic careers.

Looking forward to a great year getting to know your students and families,

Leilani Lamoreaux
