I spent much of my childhood on the eastern Washington Palouse, tracking red-tailed hawks by day and coyotes by night.
Later I earned my bachelor's degree in English from Walla Walla University—then worked as an editor for a publishing company and as an adjunct college writing instructor. It was through the stint as an adjunct that I discovered my proclivity for teaching. I earned my master's degree (MiT) from Washington State University–Vancouver, taught ESL for a spell, then finally became a high school teacher. I've taught English 9, 10, 11, and 12, as well as pre-AP English, AP Literature, and AP Language. This is my fourteenth year teaching; the last eight have been at RHS.
When not in the company of teenage scholars, I enjoy running long distances on mountain trails, running shorter distances on neighborhood paths, and casually observing bird life. (I do not have a life list.)
