Readers Workshop:
Each month, first graders focus on a specific Unit of Study in Reading. We read books, focus our partnership discussions, and think about a common theme. We work to increase our reading stamina as well as our critical thinking skills. These themes include information text attributes, character study, work with partnerships, reading strategies, etc.
Writers Workshop:
Students have dedicated time each day to plan, sketch, write, revise and edit their work. They work independently and with a writing partner. In first grade we focus on several major units of writing, including:
Personal Narratives (Small Moments)
Informational Texts (How To, All About)
Realistic Fiction
Opinion/Review/Persuasive
