Doctors Appointments & Referrals

The Moore Center for Orthopedics proudly serves as the Official Team Physicians to Westwood High School, and offers a wide array of medical services to our student-athletes. Through this relationship, our staff is able to schedule appointments directly from our Athletic Training Room on-campus, saving parents the time and hassle of contacting and selecting an appropriate Physician to provide the best care for your athlete's situation.

Prior to scheduling an appointment with your family physician or pediatrician, please contact our staff to discuss the benefits of utilizing this tremendous relationship!

Athletes seeing medical care outside of our team physicians must submit written clearance & instructions before continued participation.

Care for General Students

The scope of practice and standing orders from our team physicians allows AT staff members to care for student-athletes who have sustained an injury or illness resulting from participation in athletics at Westwood. Injuries sustained by general students should be evaluated by their Primary Care Physician or an appropriate Specialty Physician. Our staff is happy to assist in care plans outlined by the Physician as our time and resources permit, with priority being given to student-athlete needs.

Parents with questions or who would like to utilize our services should contact our staff to obtain the necessary consent forms and details on what information will be needed from the referring Physician.

Medical Eligibility

To be cleared for athletic activities, all pages of the SCHSL Physical and the Richland District Two Sports Health Form must be submitted prior to participation. All forms must be signed by the parent, student, athlete, and evaluating medical provider where indicated on the forms. No other versions or formats of these documents will be accepted.

The sports physical must be completed and documented by a qualified medical provider (Physician, Nurse Practitioner, or Physicians Assistant).

To be valid for the 2015-2016 school year, the physical examination must be performed after April 1, 2015.

Medical Insurance

Richland School District Two provides secondary medical insurance which covers injuries sustained while participating in athletic activities at Westwood High School. Injuries sustained during club seasons or out of school activities are not covered by this policy.

Important Notes:

*Injuries must be reported to an Athletic Trainer    in order to be covered under this policy.
Medical care must be initiated within 30 days    of the date of injury.

*Coverage is designed to supplement the
remaining costs after the parent's deductible
has been met and their primary medical
insurance has paid its covered portion. Parents
should not expect all costs to be covered by
   this policy.
*It is the parent's responsibility to file all
insurance paperwork and claims directly with
the insurance provider. School and district staff
are not authorized to access billing and claims
information. Forms must be received by the
insurance company within 90 days of the
   date of injury
*After the parent's primary medical insurance
has paid its portion, an Explanation of Benefits
(EOB) must be submitted by the parent to the
insurance company. The insurance company will
then send any applicable payments to the
parent, who will then be responsible for paying
   the medical bill.

  • New Insurance Procedures

Richland School District Two has partnered with Team Assure as its new secondary accident insurance carrier, and as with any change in providers there are some important changes in procedures and the processes for filing insurance claims should your child suffer an injury while participating in athletics.

It is extremely important that all parents/guardians review this information prior to your athlete becoming injured so that protocols and procedures may be properly followed. Failure to follow protocols and procedures could result in denial of payment on the part of Team Assure.

Please visit the Referrals and Insurance section of our Sports Medicine website for information, frequently asked questions, and instructions on what must happen should your child suffer an injury as a result of athletic participation.

  • New Convenient Care Location & Hours
Palmetto Health - USC Medical Group has recently relocated their Orthopedic Convenient Care clinic to Northeast Columbia (across from the Hilton Garden Inn off Farrow Road)! The clinic accepts bone, joint, and muscle related injuries on a walk-in basis from 8 AM to 8 PM Monday through Saturday! The clinic is open to the public, and is a great alternative to the Emergency Room for sprains, strains, and broken bones for the whole family! As always, we still encourage athletes to seek care from our Athletic Training Staff if possible prior to seeking outside care. For more information, contact a member of our Athletic Training Staff or give the clinic a call!
