George Stinney, 14 years old, is the youngest person executed in the US in the 20th century. He was accused of murdering two girls, Betty Binnicker and Mary Emma Thames. He gave what many people believe is a false confession that was never officially recorded. He was put through hours of interrogation, made without the presence of his parents; who were run out of town to escape the possibility of being lynched. There was no physical evidence of the crime, no cross examinations, and no witnesses for the defendant. Our goal is to strive for justice through a fair reopening of the case, and appealing to all, for his exoneration.
The 2016 Scholars Graduates were recognized by the USC History Department's Columbia 63 series for their impact on SC Civil Rights!
