Mrs. Kimble's Pre-K 4/5

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND GOD BLESS US, EVERYONE!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday. I want to say a great big thank you to all of you for all the wonderful and generous Christmas gifts! They are all VERY much appreciated! I am one lucky teacher to have such wonderful parents!!! We had such a busy and fun week before break! Our party was a huge success!  We had a pizza party, played some games, and made some adorable Christmas crafts. Thanks to Mrs. Hiben for all your help in the party preparation department, and thanks to both Mrs. Hiben AND Mrs. Freda for helping to make the party the best party ever!

We will be moving full speed ahead now going into the New Year. I will be assessing the children on the skills that we are working on to see what improvements we have made since September and what skills that we may still need to work on. As previously mentioned, mid-year report cards will be distributed at the end of this month/beginning of next month and then again at the end of the school year. You can help strengthen the math skills that we are learning at home by having them sort, classify, make patterns, use positional words, COUNT things from top to bottom and left to right, and compare numbers. You can also help the children strengthen their letter recognition and letter-sound skills by using flashcards and playing learning games at home, and again, I can’t stress enough the importance of reading!!! Try to read to/with your child each and every day! See what letters/words that they can read to you too! Show how YOU read top to bottom and left to right by finger tracking the words you are reading too!

It has been a very long break and we will be starting to get back into the swing of things this week. We are working a lot on the skill of listening and following directions. This is a very important kindergarten skill that we have to master this year in Pre-K. By now, the rules have been well established and school and classroom expectations are well known. We are getting better about being respectful and raising our hand when we want to talk, we’re saying “excuse me”, “please” and “thank you,” we’re letting our friends answer a question even though we know the answer and want to show everyone how smart we are, we’re better about sitting still, and also, we are getting better about not talking when the teacher or other classmates are talking! We all say “Grace” before every meal and know our 4 daily prayers very well too. We are getting better at showing respect/reverence while we pray too!

This week, the letter “K” will be introduced as the ‘quiet’ scraper sound, where your mouth opens and the back of your tongue moves up and far back to just “scrape” the roof of your mouth. It has a brother, one with whom we’ve already met. It’s that noisy guy, letter “G,” (the soft “G” sound). The “word of the week” this week is “keep” as we keep on trucking” into 2018. We will also continue learning about winter weather and reading many great stories about winter too!!

Getting ready for a superdeedooper 2018!!!!

Thank You and God Bless:
