Students spent all of September reading the poem “Where I’m From” by George Ella Lyon and writing a poem that mimics her style. We spent time learning about sensory details, punctuation in poetry, and literary devices so that students could incorporate those elements into their poem. Students finished the unit by turning their poems into videos.
As we move further into October, students will be looking at bias in writing. This skill will be essential for students to use in reading news. In this unit, students will read articles on a similar topic and decide which article is more reliable.
