Welcome to English 8!

Week 10 
10/9 - Finish Nonfiction Test/ Start prewrite for essay. 
HOMEWORK: Finish prewrite if not done in class
10/10 - Write the rough draft for the essay

10/11 - Final draft on Revision Assistant/ Go over Nonfiction test
10/12 - Intro to horror unit - The Monkey's Paw (play)

Week 9
10/2 - Text structure and synthesis of History of Teeth
10/3 - Quiz on Nonfiction.  *** 2nd block - Weekly paragraph is due
10/4  - Water article - analyze for elements of nonfiction/review for test ***3rd block - Weekly paragraph is due
10/5 - NO SCHOOL - Parent-Teacher Conferences
10/6 -  Nonfiction test today!*** 4th block - Weekly paragraph is due

Week 8 
9/25 - Finish The Outsiders project (if needed); watch The Outsiders movie.
9/26 - Writing time; model sentences; Elements of Nonfiction
9/27 - EARLY DISMISSAL. Writing time, read article
9/28 - Writing time; sentence variety, analyze article
9/29 - Weekly paragraph

During FLEX time, students will have time to work on vocabulary.

Week 7
9/18 -  New vocabulary: Symbolic Representation. Vocabulary collector due Monday 9/25. Grammar focus: Building better sentences. Finish book by beginning of class Wednesday 9/20
9/19 - Grammar focus: Building better sentences. Finish novel. Write theme statement. Finish elements of narrative sheet. 
9/20 - More building better sentences. Work on final project.
9/21 - More building better sentences. Work on final project.
9/22 - FINAL PROJECT DUE BY END OF CLASS. 

Week 6
9/11 - Grammar focus: compound-complex sentences, New vocabulary collector - Antonyms/Synonyms, Outsiders - read chapter 8, Freak the Mighty - read chapters 13-14
9/12 - Grammar focus: compound-complex sentences, class discussion on reading
9/13 - Grammar focus: building stronger sentences/sentence variety, The Outsiders read chapter 9, Freak the Mighty read chapter 15
9/14 - Grammar focus: building stronger sentences/ quiz The Outsiders chapters 7-9, Freak the Mighty chapters 11-15
9/15 - Weekly paragraph

During FLEX times, students will have time to work on vocabulary for the week and any missing work, if necessary.

9/5 -  Interim report sent home. Please bring back signed.  Work on News Report (if needed); Chapter 5 & 6 (Outsiders)/ Chapter 7-10 (Freak the Mighty) questions due. 
9/6 -  Compound-complex sentences; Reading QUIZ - The Outsiders chapters 4-6; Freak the Mighty chapters 7-10. 
9/7 - Compound-complex sentences, chapter 7 (chapters 11 &12 FREAK); diary entry
9/8 - Student work day


Week 4 
8/28 - Sentence types review, read chapter 4, characterization packet due Tuesday
8/29 - Sentence types review, characterization posters 
8/30 - Sentence types, news article, HOMEWORK: Finish news article basics (chapter 4 The Outsiders/ chapter 7 Freak the Mighty) if not done in class
