Enrichment and Summer Experiences

RCES students seek enriching experiences throughout the year in their classrooms, traveling to arts and sporting events, and through our many local programs like Scouting, 4-H. Families may also take advantage of academic classes around the region. Some of the programs have summer camps as well. Look under Summer Experiences for seasonal opportunities.

Saturday and Summer Enrichment Program through UVA

A Saturday Morning Program for Gifted and/or High Ability Students in Kindergarten - Grade 5 Classes take place in the fall at Highland School and on the UVA campus. Summer programs are open to rising 6th through 11th graders and take place in Charlottesville. Johns Hopkins Talent Search

Other opportunities exist through The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth is a world leader in the assessment & development of highly gifted children. RCPS participates in the SummerQuest Regional Summer Governor’s School for rising sixth, seventh, and eighth grade identified students. Student Opportunities (rising 6th, 7th, 8th, and RCHS alumni can apply for counselor positions.)

On the bottom portion of this page you can find the Enriching Experiences brochure Dr. Howland, former Next Step Director and Ms. Wolfe, RCPS Gifted Education Specialist, collaborated on to create for the students in our system. These were ready to go for the presentation they made for parents attending the Northern Virginia Council for Gifted/Talented Education's April, 2012 seminar, Cultivating Communities: Nurturing Potential, held at Eastern View High School in Culpeper, Virginia.
