Feb. 11      Livestock Association Educational Meeting at Golden Corral in Asheboro. "Forages and Nutrition" Presented by Jonathan Black, County Extension Director and Livestock Agent. 7 p.m. $7 per person for members.  

Mar. 10    Livestock Association Educational Meeting at Golden Corral in Asheboro. "Parasite Control Strategies and Animal Health" Sponsored by Merial. 7 p.m. $7 per person for members.  

Apr. 9       Livestock Association Poultry Supper.  6 p.m. Holly Springs Friends Meeting.  2938 Holly Spring Rd., Ramseur, NC, 27316.  Members are asked to bring a dessert.

Apr. 14      Livestock Association Educational Meeting at Windy Hill Farms.  6 p.m.  4763 Rainbow Trail, Ramseur, NC, 27316.  Free meal will be provided for members.  We will be discussing how this farm is using forages to improve weaning weights and cow conception rates.

May 10   Farm City Pig Pickin’.  6 p.m.  Green Valley Farm.  347 Green Valley Rd. Asheboro, NC 27205.  Everyone is invited!  Meal will be cooked by the Randolph Livestock and Poultry Improvement Association!

 May 19   Educational Field Day at Rockin’ B Farm.  1751 Woodrow Julian Rd., Staley, NC.   Rockin’ B Farm will be providing beef for the meal, which begins at 5:30 p.m.  The meal is free for livestock association members.  Program begins at 6:00. At Rockin’ B Farm, they raise a herd of sixty Santa Gertrudis cattle, 200 pasture raised hogs, a herd of sixty Katahdin sheep, and one hundred goats on 175 acres. The family also runs a contract poultry operation with 10 Broiler houses, producing 1.5 million pounds of processed meat every eight weeks.  Rockin’ B Farm was also selected at the 2014 Conservation Farm Family of the Year.  Topics of discussion include an overview of the farm, intensive grazing and how it is used, multi-species grazing, and other forage related topics.

 May 23   Randolph County Young Farmers and Ranchers meeting at Sagebrush restaurant in Asheboro.  7 p.m. Open to all young farmers and those interested in Agriculture ages 18-35.  Contact Allison Walker at 336-318-6000 for more information.

 June 4    Farm Safety Day Camp.  Join us for a fun-filled day of activities related to farm safety!  Open to all youth ages 5-14.  See attached flyer for more information!

July 21     Livestock Educational Meeting 7 p.m.  This meeting will be held at the Golden Corral in Asheboro.  Davis Feeds/Purina will be the sponsor for the meeting, and we will be discussing some new research on fetal programming.  Fetal programming research evaluates the effects of management and nutrition decisions made pre-calving on post-calving muscle and fat development, calf survivability, growth, carcass characteristics, reproduction, and health. $7 per person for members. 

 August 5-6   Randolph County 4-H/FFA Livestock Show!  2368 NC Hwy. 42, Asheboro, NC.  Please come out and join us for the 2016 Randolph County 4-H/FFA Livestock show!  The participants have been working very hard to get their animals ready for the show, so please come out and show your support!  The beef cattle show will begin at 7 p.m. on the 5th and the goat show will begin at 10 a.m. on the 6th.

 August 11   Livestock Educational Meeting 7 p.m.  This meeting will be held at the Golden Corral in Asheboro. $7 per person for members. 

 August 24   Fall Feeder Cattle Sale.  Carolina Stockyards.  7 p.m.  Cattle are required to have one round of blackleg vaccine and bulls must be castrated and healed.  For information about other feeder cattle sales, or questions, please contact Jonathan Black, Randolph County Extension Director and Livestock Agent, at 336-963-8680.

 Sept. 8   Livestock Educational Field Day - Sunny Slopes 2994 Fairview Farm Rd. Asheboro, NC 27205 - 6:00 P.M.  Sponsored by Southern States. Will have live cattle handling and forage demos.  Sept. 10   Roast Beef Membership Meeting. 6 p.m. Marlboro Friends Meeting in Sophia. Everyone is asked to bring a dessert.
