Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
PBIS is an approach in behavior management on a school-wide level. Children are encouraged to be mindful of their behavior in specific settings such as on the bus, in the hallways and bathrooms, in classrooms, the cafeteria, at recess and assemblies. PBIS is teaching children to be safe, respectful and responsible throughout the school day. Children are given Cub Bucks for their positive behavior which they can use to purchase items of their choice at the Cub Store. PBIS methods are researched-based and have been proven to increase academic performance. WBES promotes a positive learning environment. Ask your child about PBIS today!

Level 1 Status
The Department of Education's Accountability Report Card is online.  West Brookfield Elementary School is proud to be designated Level 1.  See the report here:

DOE Report Card for West Brookfield Elementary

Our staff and students collaborate in a variety of ways throughout the school. Our kindergartners work in teams with our sixth graders on Engineering Fridays to solve problems they encounter in literature. You may hear of them using recycled products to engineer and construct solutions to the problems they encounter.
Our first and fifth graders also collaborate on hands on projects throughout the year. Fourth and second graders have worked together as reading buddies.
Students across all grades collaborate daily putting together our morning podcasts where they report the weather forecast, student birthdays and daily happenings.

Going Green Initiatives
Recycling - Our students lead recycling efforts within the school building for numerous types of materials which we utilize in school. Fifth grade students oversee the recycling in their Jobs Program. At WBES we recycle paper, cardboard, juice pouches, plastic bottles, glue sticks, and more.

Big Hearted Books- WBES and the Merriam-Gilbert Library have partnered up with Big Hearted Books, a reuse, re-purpose and recycle program.  You can drop off old unwanted book donations at your convenience in the two large drop-off bins located near the rear entrance of the school.

Solar Panels - WBES uses solar panels to obtain electricity. Solar panels are located on the roof tops of the school.

Qua-boing - The WBES playground for students 5 years old & under has a playing surface of Qua-boing. This is made from recycled rubber shoe sole product trimmings and leftovers from Quaboag Rubber Corporation in North Brookfield.  The product is clean and provides a safe surface while being resourceful.
