Catalyst Dance Company is PVPA's contemporary concert dance company, and is an audition-based group for 9-12th grade dancers. Catalyst showcases innovative student choreography and presents work from guest choreographers and PVPA faculty of the highest caliber. The mission of the Catalyst Dance Company is to cultivate creativity, excellence, vision, and personal discovery through dance. The company is dedicated to versatility; dancers study techniques and perform choreography in a range of genres and styles from contemporary ballet, modern, improvisation, partnering, composition and dance history. The company supports and produces student driven choreography, and students gain an in depth understanding of composition as well as technical training and performance experience. Catalyst members attend the High School Dance Festival each year, where young dancers have the opportunity to receive scholarships to summer programs and colleges and the Company presents new and repertory works at an annual dance concert.

Students in Catalyst are required to enroll in the designated school-day block. In addition to classwork, students are also required to attend after school rehearsals approximately four hours per week where they prepare material for multiple performances throughout the year both at PVPA and within the greater Pioneer Valley community.

Many members of the company work towards induction into the National Honors Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) as a demonstration of their excellence as leaders, artistically and academically.
