Course Information
Junior English (English 5-6) focuses on reading American Literature. Students will have many opportunities to develop and practice skills in reading, writing, researching, speaking, listening, vocabulary building as well as critical thinking.
The selected literature for this course is in accordance with Paradise Valley Unified School District’s required and approved selection. The curriculum is aligned with the Arizona State Standards for 11th grade language arts and is required by both, the PVUSD and the State of Arizona.

Grading Scale
90% and above- A
80%-89% - B
70%-79% - C
60%-69% - D
59% and below- F
Extra Credit
Extra credit will not be given. However, if deemed appropriate and if the opportunity presents itself, the class will be notified ahead of time.
Grading Policy
All assignments are worth up to 100% of the points on the day that they are due. All work may earn:
Up to 100% of the points on the day it is due.
Will lose 10% of the possible points PER DAY after the due date.
AFTER FIVE DAYS THE ASSIGNMENT WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR UP TO 50% OF THE TOTAL POINTS.
The assignment will be graded, and then the late penalty will be applied to the original score earned.
Attendance Policy
District policy states “A student who is absent from class for more than 9 days (…) may fail that course, receive a lower grade, or be retained.” Be on time, every day. Students will be given one day for each excused absence to make up missed work.
