What to expect from…

STUDENT:

Attend class daily.
Organize work neatly, legibly.
Show YOUR WORK vertically.
Take/keep chapter notes.
Do homework & CHECK answers.
Ask/answer questions during class.
Know student handbook.
Be accountable, responsible, engaged, and motivated for your learning.
Behave as would a responsible young adult.

PARENTS/GUARDIANS:

Encourage student’s best effort.
Promote daily attendance.
Hold student accountable for daily homework.
Check grades online often.
Refer to class calendar on-line for information regarding pacing and assignments.
Consider having your student attend Math Lab.
Engage an outside tutor, if needed.
Support student handbook rules.

INSTRUCTOR:

Tutoring - Wednesdays (before/after school and during lunch).
Respect mature individual conduct.
Require respectful treatment of others.
Assist in development of higher level thinking.
Hold actions accountable.
Make content attainable (No, I did not say easy…. You will have to work for it.)
Post grades timely.

Academic Honesty

Students choosing academic dishonesty are subject to consequences outlined in the Student Handbook and will result in no credit for that assignment. Let your work reflect your efforts. Academic dishonesty is defined as:

On tests and quizzes:

Viewing another’s work while testing.
Talking during testing period (at any time!).
Aiding another during exam/quiz.
Using unauthorized reference materials during exam.
Using unauthorized electronic devices ANYTIME during testing SESSION.

On homework:

Copying another student’s work.
Stating another student’s work is your own.
Providing your work to another student to copy. HOWEVER, collaboration IS encouraged. Do you know the difference?

On group work:

Lack of personal effort on group work.
Using the work of another group.
Giving another group your group’s work.

Tests/quizzes are kept by instructor to maintain integrity of common assessments. Test/quizzes are available for viewing upon request. Please email me.

RESPECT Self, Others, and Property

R Remain seated – Please ask to get up

E Eats/drinks prohibited (H₂0 OK)

S Swearing/profanity not tolerated

P Prejudice/racism outlawed

E Electronic devices are forbidden

C Come to class prepared to learn

T Tardy policy: Bell rings = be seated

MATH IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT!!! So…

Contribute positively to class.
Come in, take seat, and get ready for class BEFORE the last bell. *After the last bell, you ARE considered tardy.
Collaborate with colleagues. This is DIFFERENTIATED from copying other’s work.
Ask/answer questions.
Work problems on the board.
Come for tutoring sooner rather than later.
Study time = be quiet and begin homework!
Remain seated until final class bell.

SUPPLIES:

· Pencil, pen, eraser, and a lot of LOOSE-LEAF PAPER, dry erase markers, binder/notebook for notebook quizzes.

· Scientific Calculator. (TI 82/83/84 – will be required at University)

· Calculators: CELL PHONES are PROHIBITED.

GRADES:

Grading Scale: A 90% - 100%

B 80% - 89%

C 70% - 79%

D 60% - 69%

F 0% - 59%

QUARTER GRADES - In order for quarterly grade to accurately reflect their mastery of the state standards, homework and project grades are limited to no more than 15% of a student’s quarter grade. The remaining 85% of the quarter grade is determined by the student’s performance on quizzes and tests.

SEMESTER GRADES - Semester grades are determined by averaging the two-quarter percentage grades and the final exam percentage grade. The two-quarter grades will be weighted 40 percent each and the final exam grade weighted 20 percent.

ASSIGNMENTS

Homework/Class Work

Assigned and collected daily.
Graded for completeness. Students expected to check answers in back of text book.
1 point per problem TRIED.
TRIED = for each problem, write

1) the “given”

2) show work algebraically and

3) state answer.

NO WORK = NO CREDIT
If absent, locate assignment details posted on class calendar and/or website calendar.
Always show heading and topic, justifying answers in vertical columns rather than horizontal lines.
Will take 30 - 45 minutes to finish.
CHECK YOUR ANSWERS!!!

Late homework will be accepted up to the date of chapter test. After chapter test, missing homework will NOT be accepted.

Test-Quizzes-Notebook Checks -Participation

Given appropriately (may be unannounced).
Partial credit available for work shown.
Correct answers require proper algebraic justification.
If ABSENT:
- On REVIEW day – YOU ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE EXAM ON DAY SCHEDULED.
- On TEST day, test make-up is next school day during class.
